5 Formatting tips to improve your e-book conversions
Writing an e-book can be challenging. It can also be equally challenging to format one. At BookByPart.com, we recommend you write your book in a word processor using the (.docx) format and then convert into (.epub) later for publishing.
Before converting your (.docx) into an e-book, follow these formatting tips to improve your e-book conversions.
1. Book Cover
An obvious way to improve your e-book is to add a custom cover. Be sure to include;
* Book Title
* Author Name
* An image thats contextually symbolic to the book.
Also, sizing your book cover to be 1600 x 2400 is a perfect image ratio of (1:1.6).
2. Page Breaks
Inserting a page break is a good way to keep text from running together.
Pages to insert a page break includes;
* Title Page
* Dedication Page
* Copyright Page
* At the end of every chapter
3. Table of Contents
What better way to improve the formatting of your e-book than to add a table of contents? In most word processors, the option to insert a table of contents should be fairly simple. However, before you insert the table of contents, you will need to format each chapter header to “Heading 1”. This will enable the table of contents feature to properly identify the chapter headers to apply the links.
Who doesn’t like images? Images are a powerful tool. However, you don’t want to copy and paste an image into your document. Instead, insert the image using your word processors “Insert Image” tool. Be sure to keep your image width between 600 and 800 pixels.
6. Line Breaks
Instead of hitting enter(return for macs) at the end of a line, insert a line break to separate the paragraphs. This will ensure that the space between the two paragraphs translates over when you convert your document into an e-book.
